I love to shop at needlepoint and yarn stores. But I was frustrated by how hard it was to find stores when I traveled. Now, with my Travel Guide and website, it's easy!

Books
Here at ShopYarn.com, we're constantly searching the internet to find out about new shops as they open.
While we're doing this, we also see a lot of knitting books mentioned. We thought we'd start sharing
some of these books and what people are saying about them with you.

Fitted Knits
By: Stefanie Japel
"My favorite book ever. Fitted Knits, by Stefanie Japel, is easily my favorite knitting book. The reason is the patterns. Usually I buy a knitting book and may want to make several patterns, but I end up only using one pattern. This book is vastly different. I have already made three garments from this book, and have started two more. There are several more beyond that I plan to complete. The items are current and wearable without being too trendy, and the top-down raglan construction makes them easy to knit with very little finishing for us "sewing phobics." The garments require a variety of yarns, and not all are expensive, giving the reader options to make a beautiful sweater that doesn't break the bank.there are also good instructions on how to modify a pattern to fit the wearer better.I can't wait for her next books to come out!"

Sweater Workshop
By: Jacqueline Fee
"Finally, I grab Jacqueline Fee's "The Sweater Workshop"...you know, the one that I made the cute full size sweater sampler with? In that book, I found a pattern for a Reversible Sweater that is fantastic! You knit it in the round (very easy with hardly any sewing involved) and it can be worn either with the right side out or inside out! It is sooo cool!"

The Best of Vogue Knitting Magazine: 25 Years of Articles, Techniques, and Expert Advice
By: Vogue Knitting Magazine
"“Vogue Knitting 25 Years”, is my all-time favorite knitting book. And that is saying a lot. It contains articles from the past 25 years, from informative to technical, from a wide range of authors. It is making me want to pull out old copies of my Vogue and look at the patterns again. I can’t recommend it highly enough.”"

Knitting Rules!: The Yarn Harlot's Bag of Knitting Tricks
By: Stephanie Pearl-McPhee
"I just finished reading Knitting Rules!: The Yarn Harlot's Bag of Knitting Tricks and I loved it! Although it was a quick read, I am only left wishing there was more because it was such an enjoyable read. The writing is funny and confidence inspiring. Knitting that I have avoided or not yet attempted I now feel inspired to reconsider."

Kids Learn to Knit
By: Lucinda Guy
"I'd bought him Kids Learn to Knit by Lucinda Gray and I can really recommend it. the diagrams and explanations are really clear and just pitched at the right level. He managed to cast on 16 stitches using the thumb method and knit a row. I had to wrap the wool around for him - it's so easy to forget just how complex it is to hold both needles and be able to wrap the wool around at the same time, especially if you've never done it before. He was so proud of himself though - I was quite surprised just how much he got into it."

Knitting Never Felt Better: The Definitive Guide to Fabulous Felting
By: Nicky Epstein
"“I love Nicky Epstein and wish I could see inside her head. Her latest book is just as great as just as great as many of her others. Knitting Never Felt Better: A Definitive Guide to Fabulous Felting. There are several pages of patterned swatches before and after felting. I love before and after pictures! There are several different options shared on how to make and attach purse straps too. Of course, there are some awesome patterns included. I would almost consider this a coffee table book. I am glad to have this one added my collection!""

The Knitting Circle: A Novel
By: Ann Hood
"“I just finished "The Knitting Circle" by Ann Hood. I felt rather voyeuristic as I read this novel, knowing how closely it mirrors her own experience. The author learned to knit when the usual comfort she found in writing and reading and language in general had left her after the loss of her daughter. I am not the sort of person who cries easily while reading but this one did it."

Knitting Fashions of the 1940s: Styles, Patterns and History
By: Jane Waller
"This one has been available in the UK for a while now, but has recently been released in the U.S. The book delivers what it promises, offering "Styles, Patterns, and History," but keep in mind that the author is British, so while some of the history is also applicable to the U.S., Britain is the main focus. I found more "glamour" type garments - styles that may not translate as well into today's more casual era, and fewer classic and traditional styles. Some of the colorwork patterns in this collection include charts, and there are men's, women's, and children's garments included. I was delighted to see a new collection of patterns from days gone by in a usable format."

Knit 2 Together: Patterns and Stories for Serious Knitting Fun
By: Tracey Ullman, Mel Clark, Eric Axene
""It's a pretty good book actually and successfully balances a range of patterns, from the simplistic to the more complicated, with prose that is funny and you want to read. Normally, I tend not to read the "fluff" found in many books and focus only on the knitting projects but the bits in this book are like snippets of an interesting conversation. And I like the pictures. They look natural and you kind of feel like you are looking at pictures in a friends photo album.""

the stories behind the movements and to collect them into this unique

positive direction." Since a portion of the proceeds from the sale of
Knitting for Peace will be donated to charity, this is the gift that gives

The Knitting Answer Book: Solutions to Every Problem You'll Ever Face; Answers to Every Question You'll Ever Ask
By: Margaret Radcliffe
"“The Knitting Answer Book" would be a useful addition to the knitting
library of most knitters. The book size is 4½ by 6½ by 1 inch thick, a
nice size to carry with your knitting. If you have no knitting experience at
all, get a book with basic how-to-knit instructions first. Once you have
that first scarf or dishcloth made, this book can answer your questions and
help you learn the finer points of knitting."
